Chill Series Report: The Finals

The 2009 Chicopee Chill Series finals were last Saturday and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. The sun beat down on the course as skiers and snowboarders jammed it up in a four 20 minutes rail sessions. The jam format brought competitors from all four age divisions together dropping in alongside one another.

While there were only a few development team riders who showed up, they sure didn’t let dropping in beside the big scary seniors intimidate them in any way. The seniors were bullied into giving the devs their space after witnessing the demolition of rails laid down by these kids. In the end it was Devon Fitzgerald’s action packed runs with ‘what’s up now’ facial expressions that landed him at the top of the judges score card. Devon also went home as the overall points winner for the series in the development division.

Moving on to the juniors division we had Max Moffat sitting at the top of the point’s leader race until his no-show on Saturday gave the Botterman brothers a chance at the title.

While Adam put together some solid runs he didn’t quite have the same pop in his ollie as his brother Eric. Eric seemed to go just a little bit bigger, held onto tricks a little bit longer, and pressed it a little bit harder, giving him the title for overall points leader for the juniors division.

The intermediate division went uncontested as Meltdown Team Rider Landon Jones put together some of the best runs of the day. His smooth style not only landed him in top spot for the day, but also gave him enough points to overtake first place for the intermediate point race. LJ was also voted “Boarder of the Day” by his peers and went home with a brand new snowboard.

In the seniors division Dwight Jantzi and Nick Outram had a real head-to-head battle on the judges score card. Dwight’s out-of-control yet somehow still in-control switch presses is what edged him into the lead at the end of the day. As a result of his impressive performance he also took home the crown for overall points leader for the seniors division.

Special congratulations go out to Quinn Power who took home a brand new sexy pair of skies. Quinn was voted “Skier of the Day” by his peers.

All four Chill Series overall point winners took home SoHo Sneaker Shop pro-deal discount cards, good for a whole year. Prizes and giveaways throughout the series included dvd, cds, Electric hoodies, t-shirts, hats and stickers sponsored by Meltdown Snowboard Shop.

All competitors from Saturday’s event will also receive a DVD compilation of all 2009 Chill Series videos and bonus footage courtesy of Meltdown and Chicopee.
